Her Excellency, Ismara Vargas Walter - Cuban Ambassador to the UK

Her Excellency Ismara Vargas Walter is Cuba's Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Ireland, and Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organisation. Appointed to the role in March 2024, she received official recognition at Buckingham Palace on 12 June 2024.

Prior to her posting in London, she served as Cuban Ambassador to the Bahamas and held a position at the United Nations. In London, she has prioritised engagement across a broad range of bilateral issues, including trade, education, culture, biotechnology and the environment.

She has been an active presence in parliamentary and civic circles, working to develop constructive relationships between Cuban and British institutions and to advance dialogue on matters of shared international importance. A lawyer by training, she holds a law degree from the Universidad de La Habana.
